Q: My dance pad does not work with In The Groove. It works in the Windows Control Panel Game Controllers test screen though.
A: In The Groove does not automatically assign mappings for all models of USB adapters and dance pads. Your dance pad probably is a model that does not automatically map, and you'll need assign your dance pad's buttons.
Q: After choosing Game Start, my screen turns all white, making it impossible to play the game.
A: We have heard people report this with some Compaq notebooks that have an ATI graphics chip. It appears to be related to a bug the ATI Direct3D video driver. Try these steps:
If that doesn't help, try these steps:
Q: I accidentally switched to German. How do I switch back to English?
A: Here's the quickest way to switch out of German:
Q: The game doesn't register simultaneous presses or Left + Right, and doesn't register simultaneous presses of Up + Down.
A: Not being able to press Left and Right simultaneously is a hardware limitation of some USB adapters. However, most USB adapters have a "Dance Pad Code" that you can enter on the dance pad to get around this problem. For most models of USB adapters, the code is:
Hold Up, Start, and Select on the dance pad for three seconds at any time while the USB adapter is plugged into the computer.
After entering that code, re-map you dance pads and Left+Right should work simultaneously. You won't need to remap the dance pads ever again, but you'll need to re-enter the Dance Pad Code every time you restart the computer or unplug the USB adapter.
There's more information about this problem on the StepMania Dance Pad Code page (http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Dance_Pad_Code)
Q: What's new in ITG PC/Mac compared to ITG PS2?
A:
Q: Will there be a Linux version?
A: Probably not. We're very sorry, but there just aren't enough Linux gamers who would play ITG to justify the development and testing time.
Q: Why does my firewall show a message when I start the game?
A: If your drivers are digitally signed by Microsoft, Windows automatically checks to see if the driver's certificate has expired by connecting to crl.Microsoft.com. This check is usually triggered when you launch In The Groove or other DirectX games. This feature of Windows can be turned off with the following steps:
This will stop Windows from trying the verify if a signed driver's certificate has expired or not.
Q: I created some step edits. Where are they stored on my hard drive?
In Windows:
My Documents/In The Groove Demo/Save/MachineProfile/Edits
In Mac OS:
~/Library/Preferences/In The Groove Demo/MachineProfile/Edits
Q: The game won't register more than 2 keyboard keys simultaneously
A: This is a hardware limitation of many keyboards. Certain combinations of keys cannot be pressed simultaneously. You may be able to work around this problem by remapping your keys to avoid combinations that don't register.
Q: Anti-Vir or another virus scanner detects "TR/Dldr.Zlob" in the the In The Groove installer or uninstaller
A: This is likely a false positive detection. To be sure, scan your computer using a free online virus scanner:
Some anti-virus programs detect false-positives on installers and uninstallers built with NSIS (our installation system). More information is available here:
Q: The game says that I've unlocked new Expert steps, but I don't see Expert steps in the list of difficulties
A: There are 3 songs that have Expert steps for Double but don't have Expert steps for Single. When you beat any of these song on Hard in Single, you see "Expert steps unlocked" even though there are no Expert steps in Single. You have to change over to Double to see the Expert steps that were just unlocked.
"Song Pack A" is a patch that adds more songs and courses to the full version of In The Groove PC/Mac. Song Pack A downloads for Windows and Mac OS X are available for download here (http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/In_The_Groove_Downloads).
We have heard from several players that the game does run correctly on Windows Vista. In The Groove wasn't tested on Windows Vista though, so it's possible that there may be some compatibility problems.
Unfortunately, it's not an easy process to create your own songs for ITG. In The Groove PC/Mac can songs in the StepMania file format. There is some information at the following locations about creating songs in the StepMania file format.
